AJPC Editorial & Prevention Fellowship
The AJPC Editorial & Prevention Fellowship is a 12-month fellowship designed to provide hands-on experience in scientific publishing, editorial decision-making, and journal strategy within the American Journal of Preventive Cardiology. The fellow will be actively engaged in the day-to-day work of the journal, working closely with AJPC editorial leadership and ASPC leadership across key aspects of the journal's editorial process, including editorial workflow, peer review, reviewer identification, methodological evaluation, thematic and special issue development, editorials, visual central illustrations, dissemination planning, supporting the AJPC Academy, and broader editorial board strategy.
The fellowship is intended to provide structured mentorship while giving the fellow an active role in the journal's scientific and editorial activities. Running for 12 months, the AJPC Editorial & Prevention Fellowship represents a new component of ASPC and AJPC's broader investment in mentorship, education, and the development of the next generation of cardiovascular prevention scholars.

"Scientific journals have an important responsibility not only to disseminate high-quality science, but also to help develop the next generation of academic and editorial leaders. This fellowship was designed to provide meaningful, hands-on exposure to the full editorial process; from evaluating science and making editorial decisions to developing content and shaping journal strategy. We are delighted to welcome Izza as our inaugural fellow. Her strong background in preventive cardiology research, scientific communication, and academic publishing makes her an excellent fit for this new initiative. Meet Our Inaugural Fellow
Izza Shahid, MBBS, is a postdoctoral fellow in preventive cardiology at Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, where her work focuses on cardiovascular prevention, cardiometabolic health, the cardiovascular exposome, and social determinants of health. She has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and serves as a reviewer for several cardiovascular journals. She has received national recognition for her work in cardiovascular prevention and women's cardiovascular health.
