PCSK9i and VESALIUS-CV Educational Initiative: Changing the Prevention Conversation

For nearly a decade, the evidence supporting PCSK9 inhibition has grown steadily, from FOURIER's landmark outcomes data to GLAGOV's imaging insights into plaque regression. Now, VESALIUS-CV moves that evidence earlier in the disease course, asking not how we treat a patient's next cardiovascular event, but whether we can prevent the first one.

This educational initiative, developed for ASPC members, explores what VESALIUS-CV means for clinical practice through a six-part video series featuring practical, case-based discussions: the trial's landmark findings in high-risk patients without prior MI or stroke, the magnitude of LDL-C lowering required to change outcomes, real-world scenarios involving diabetes and subclinical atherosclerosis, and how the 2026 ACC/AHA dyslipidemia guideline reframes LDL-C goals and the role of nonstatin therapies. Together, these discussions challenge clinicians to look beyond event history and ask a more fundamental question: has this patient's LDL-C been lowered enough for their level of risk?
