VESALIUS-CV and the Expanding Role of PCSK9 Inhibition Before a First Cardiovascular Event
Wednesday, November 4, 2026
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM EST
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM EST
The program will highlight the growing recognition that cumulative exposure to LDL-C drives atherosclerotic risk, making earlier and more sustained LDL-C reduction an important opportunity to alter the trajectory of disease. Dr. Bohula will discuss how the VESALIUS-CV findings may influence patient identification, LDL-C treatment goals, therapeutic intensification, and the potential role of PCSK9 inhibitors before the first cardiovascular event occurs.
Lecturer
Erin Bohula, MD, DPhil is an Associate Physician in Cardiovascular Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Boston, MA, USA, a Senior Investigator at the TIMI Study Group and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr Bohula earned her DPhil in Molecular Biology from University of Oxford, Oxford, UK on a Rhodes Scholarship in molecular oncology. Following training at Harvard Medical School & BWH, she is board certified in cardiology and critical care medicine.
As a cardiac intensivist, Dr. Bohula was involved in creating the Critical Care Cardiology Trials Network, a North American research collaborative of cardiology critical care units (CICU) and helped to lead their inaugural RCT, COVID-PACT, studying the efficacy and safety of antithrombotic therapy in critically-ill COVID-19 patients. As a TIMI Study Group Investigator, she studies pharmacologic interventions for cardiometabolic diseases, such as hyperlipidemia, obesity and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Her recent trial involvement includes IMPROVE-IT, CAMELLIA-TIMI 61, VESALIUS-CV, and MARITIME-CV. She has received multiple awards, including the ACC W. Proctor Harvey Young Teaching Award and the Eugene Braunwald Faculty Award. She is the Chair of the AHA Acute Care and General Cardiology Council and the Specialty Editor for Critical Care Cardiology at Circulation.
Moderator
Ty Gluckman, MD, MPH, FASPC,is Medical Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Analytics, Research, and Data Science (CARDS) at the Providence Heart Institute in Portland, Oregon and an adjunct faculty member of the Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Gluckman's principal clinical interests include identifying, coordinating, and implementing cardiovascular care improvement strategies. He has authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles, reviews, and book chapters. His work has been published in several high-impact journals including JACC, Circulation, JAMA, JAMA Cardiology, JAHA, and the Archives of Internal Medicine.
He serves as Associate Editor for Practice Guidelines and Clinical Documents for ACC.org, the primary web site for the American College of Cardiology (ACC). He also serves chair of the ACC Solution Set Oversight Committee. He is an active councilor and Governor-Elect for the Oregon Chapter of the ACC. He previously served as National Clinical Quality Expert for the ACC Patient Navigator Program and currently serves as National Chair of the ACC Patient Navigator Program-Focus MI. Dr. Gluckman was lead developer for the ACC/AHA Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD) Risk Estimator app, selected as the best medical app in 2014 and more recently, helped to design the AnticoagEvaluator, BridgeAnticoag, ASCVD + and LDL-C Manager apps.
