Professional Bio
Dr. Abena Agyekum is an Internal Medicine resident at SUNY Downstate Medical Center (Brooklyn, NY), with a strong interest in women’s cardiovascular health, cardio-obstetrics, and health disparities. Her recent work has focused on cardiovascular outcomes in premenopausal women, with presentations at national cardiology conferences, including the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions. She is committed to advancing cardiovascular care for women across the lifespan through research, education, and advocacy. She is also the co-founder of Period Mate, a nonprofit initiative dedicated to addressing period poverty and improving menstrual health education in Ghana. Dr Agyekum is preparing to pursue fellowship training in general cardiology with a focus on women’s heart health.
