New Lipid Guidelines
Wednesday, May 13, 2026
6:00 - 7:00 PM EDT
6:00 - 7:00 PM EDT
By participating in this CardioCore Foundational Lecture, you will better understand how the 2026 ACC/AHA Multi-society Dyslipidemia Guideline translates into practical, patient-centered care, specifically how to (1) assess cardiovascular risk using contemporary tools, (2) initiate and intensify lipid-lowering therapy based on individualized risk, and (3) apply updated treatment targets including LDL-C, non–HDL-C, and ApoB.
You will also gain clarity on when to incorporate additional risk markers such as Lp(a) and coronary artery calcium, how to approach triglyceride management in the context of both ASCVD and pancreatitis risk, and how to apply evidence-based strategies across diverse patient populations, including those with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and other high-risk conditions.
Lecturer

Roger S. Blumenthal, MD, FASPC, is The Kenneth Jay Pollin Professor of Cardiology, Professor of Medicine, and the Director of the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Blumenthal graduated with honors from both the Landon School in Bethesda and Johns Hopkins University. He received his medical degree from Cornell Medical College, where he was awarded the Weiss Prize for Excellence in Clinical Medicine.
He did his Internal Medicine and Cardiology fellowship training at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine before joining the Hopkins Cardiology faculty. Dr. Blumenthal was the 2018 recipient of the Landon School Anthony Kupka Distinguished Alumnus Award. He was the 2019 recipient of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) Arthur S. Agatston Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Award for his work in selective use of cardiac CT to improve cardiovascular risk assessment.
His principal clinical and research interests involve 1) strategies to improve cardiovascular risk assessment to identify those adults at elevated risk for their age and those at very low risk of cardiovascular disease & 2) the optimal management of atherosclerotic vascular disease. He is an expert in the pathogenesis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Blumenthal was the principal developer of the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease. He has co-authored more than 1,000 scientific publications on many aspects of cardiovascular disease management.
