Hot Topics in Preventive Cardiology and Lifestyle Medicine:

Implications for Patient Counseling and Management

Foundational factors underlying the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) include physical inactivity, poor dietary habits, and cigarette smoking, which are further modulated by social disparities, unhealthy behavior practices, and concomitant psychosocial stressors. Collectively, these lead to abnormal risk factor profiles and ultimately, acute coronary events.  This Masterclass will focus on these topics and relevant adjunctive medications, with specific reference to extreme exercise regimens,  impact of mental health on lifestyle, management of obese patients, intermittent fasting, smoking cessation, vaping, and smoking marijuana, treating cardiometabolic disorders, exercise prescription, holistic approaches to CVD risk reduction, plant-based cardioprotective diets, sleep aides, devices for tracking and motivating lifestyle change, impact of stress on CVD risk, counseling strategies to facilitate behavior change, and what we’ve learned from our studies of “Blue Zones.”

This Masterclass compendium is offered as a 1-day pre-conference course to the ASPC 2024 Congress on CVD Prevention in Salt Lake City, Utah, August 2-4, 2024. To register, please CLICK HERE.
