Target Audience
This program has been designed for all medical professionals involved in the care of women, including: general cardiologists, interventional cardiologists,
internists, family practitioners, ob/gyns, endocrinologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physician's assistants and other healthcare professionals
involved in the care of women with cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Learning Objectives
- Illustrate where Coronary Artery Calcium Score (CAC) results can change patient management;
- Discuss the impact of exercise and stress management on the prevention of cardiovascular disease in women;
- Highlight components of the 2011 effectiveness guidelines for the prevention of CVD in women as related to exercise and stress management;
- Discuss the effects of menopausal hormone therapy MHT;
- Recognize new guidelines for women and heart disease;
- Discuss the prevalence and magnitude of the problem of CVD in women;
- Review the potential pathophysiological causes of statin intolerance
- Recognize the potential reasons for disparate treatment of women with cardiovascular risk or disease;
- Assess the current evidence about the use of calcium and vitamin D supplements in women;
- Discuss the criteria for diagnosing Familial Hypercholesterolemia and the current treatments available;
- Evaluate the relationship between cardiovascular health and good sexual function;
- Review lifestyle and pharmacologic recommendations for CVD prevention.
