Mission Statement
The mission of the ASPC is to provide a framework for the educational interests of health care providers to promote the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. The specific goals of the organization are to organize and conduct professional educational programs to emphasize the processes of risk factor identification and intervention based on the most rigorous basic, clinical, and population science. Objectives to achieve these goals include stand-alone CME programs on CVD prevention and partnership with other professional groups to present and promote CME programs on CVD prevention and to enhance opportunities for preventive cardiology at all levels of professional development.
Primary Activities of ASPC
The ASPC meets annually in conjunction with the American Heart Association, Council on Epidemiology and Prevention meeting, which is held each year in the spring. ASPC sponsors an annual debate on a controversial issue in preventive cardiology, held during the Council meeting. In addition, ASPC offers members an informal support network of fellow preventive cardiologists who share clinical, educational, and research interests. The ASPC network provides active collaboration and professional support to members developing programs in all of these areas.
